Hanlie is one of the founder-members of the ALWG. In 1995, she was part of a team that started a lion survey in two concession areas in the Okavango Delta, which, in 1997, developed into a collaborative three-year survey of the lion population in the Okavango Delta together with the Botswana Department of Wildlife and National Parks. At the same time, she embarked on a long-term lion monitoring project in the Delta, which lasted 10 years.
Hanlie obtained her doctoral degree in Wildlife Management in 2016 with her dissertation titled: The conservation and human-carnivore conflict management and landscape suitability of Botswana for large carnivores with an emphasis on the cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) and African wild dog (Lycaon pictus). Since 2017, Hanlie works as a carnivore researcher for Cheetah Conservation Fund, and is mainly focused on farmer-predator conflict issues in the Gobabis District. |
