I graduated with an undergraduate degree in Wildlife Management at Midlands State University (Zimbabwe) in 2011 and qualified as class valedictorian. In 2014, I was awarded the Kirk-Turner Scholarship to read for a Postgraduate diploma in International Wildlife Practise at University of Oxford. In 2016, I was awarded a WildCRU-Beit Trust Joint Scholarship to study for a doctorate in Zoology at University of Oxford. Here in Oxford, not only do I read books in King James English, I am learning on how to better conserve lions! My research interests include social-science research to understand how local pastoralists make decisions. For example, if livestock is regarded as ‘bank accounts’ in most African communities, why then do local people leave their livestock to graze unattended exposed to risk of lion-attack? If indeed livestock was worth that much to local people, shouldn’t they be protecting their wealth at all costs? Perhaps, local villagers are making irrational decisions, who knows?
