Aleksander is a career conservation biologist and wildlife camera operator. His research is diverse and includes estimating large felid populations with SECR, trophy hunting, human-wildlife conflict and top-down effects of large carnivores. My model species include leopards, African lions, spotted hyenas and elephants. To date my field sites have included the Cape Fold mountains and northern Zululand of South Africa, Mumbai India, the Peruvian Amazon and southwestern Uganda.
Aleksander's current work sees him spending most of his time engaged in capacity building with the Uganda Wildlife Authority, Makerere University and a suite of conservation NGO's in order to perform country-wide surveys of African lions and other large carnivores. |
